Company Overview

My client is a venture-backed startup based in Silicon Valley, dedicated to transforming robotic automation through intelligent, AI-driven systems. While traditional automation is often inflexible, expensive, and complex, my client's cutting-edge technology enables more adaptable, efficient, and easily integrated solutions for warehouses and industrial environments. Founded by top experts in robotics and artificial intelligence, the company delivers real-world solutions that help organizations increase productivity and stay ahead of evolving operational demands.

Role Description

My client is seeking a passionate and skilled Robotics Hardware Engineer to take the lead on hardware systems and integration efforts at their Hamburg location. This role offers substantial ownership and responsibility—from selecting the smallest mechanical components to managing large-scale robotic installations spanning over 100 square meters with budgets up to €500,000. You’ll work closely with the founding team to bring designs to life across international sites, directly influencing automation in global industrial settings.

This position is based on-site in Hamburg and requires travel of approximately 25–50%.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive mechanical design efforts from initial concept through prototyping, validation, and deployment.
  • Lead robotic integration projects for customer pilots, demos, trade shows, and internal R&D.
  • Manage mechanical labs and facilities to support cutting-edge hardware development.
  • Handle procurement, quality control, and logistics for hardware components.
  • Travel to support installations, resolve on-site technical issues, and collaborate with customers and partners.
  • Anticipate and mitigate project risks to ensure smooth, timely execution and delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360) and ability to produce accurate technical drawings.
  • Hands on experience with Robotic Arms (6-axis)
  • Familiarity with robot arm programming languages (e.g., RAPID, KRL, INFORM, Karel, URScript), C++, PLC programming, and version control (Git) is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical issues, including connection of robot I/O, robot safety, and controls cabinets.
