I help Legal and Compliance Professionals within Germany | Director

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Labour Law to lead our employment and labour law function in Munich. This is a senior leadership position, ideal for a dynamic legal professional with deep expertise in German labour law, outstanding communication skills, and a proven track record in managing teams and complex employment matters in a corporate environment.

As Head of Labour Law, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing our legal strategy around employment law, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and HR. You will lead a team of experienced labour lawyers and be responsible for ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, and supporting transformational projects across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Labour Law team, providing guidance, mentoring, and strategic direction.
  • Advise senior management and HR business partners on all aspects of German individual and collective labour law.
  • Oversee negotiations with works councils and trade unions, including co-determination matters and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support strategic projects such as restructurings, integrations, and organisational change initiatives.
  • Represent the company in complex employment litigation and manage external counsel as needed.
  • Monitor legislative developments and ensure proactive compliance with employment law regulations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, compliance, HR, and operational stakeholders at local and global levels.

Your Profile

  • Fully qualified lawyer in Germany (Zweites Staatsexamen) with at least 8–10 years of post-qualification experience in labour law.
  • Significant experience in a corporate legal department or top-tier law firm, preferably with leadership responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop high-performing legal teams.
  • Excellent understanding of German individual and collective labour law; experience with European or international employment law is a plus.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, especially in dealings with works councils and unions.
  • Business-minded, pragmatic, and able to balance legal risk with commercial priorities.
  • Fluent in German and English (written and spoken).
