We’re working with a UAE-based climate tech company, backed by major regional innovation players, developing drone-enabled nature-based solutions (NBS) to help unlock carbon credits through reforestation and mangrove restoration across the UAE and Africa.

As they move toward early-stage certification for their projects, they’re seeking a Carbon Credit Subject Matter Expert to lead efforts on methodology alignment, MRV strategy, and technical compliance with leading global standards like Verra and Gold Standard.

This is a contract role for 3 months, with a flexible hybrid setup – work remotely from Europe or the GCC and travel to Abu Dhabi occasionally (1–2 times/month).

The Role:

This is a senior expert role supporting certification-readiness. You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and scientific teams to translate certification standards into technical requirements that underpin scalable, nature-based carbon projects.

You must bring technical rigour, a passion for impact, and the ability to bridge science and real-world implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise on carbon certification methodologies (e.g. VM0043, AR-ACM0003, Gold Standard A/R) for reforestation and mangrove projects
• Define MRV-compatible data flows, protocols, and compliance documentation
• Validate modelling frameworks for carbon baseline, planting, and sequestration monitoring
• Translate certification requirements into actionable product and tech specifications
• Provide strategic support on pilot project certification-readiness in the UAE and Africa
• Liaise with validators, auditors, and ecosystem stakeholders to align on processes

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years in the carbon credit market, with a strong focus on nature-based solutions
• Deep knowledge of Verra, Gold Standard A/R, and MRV frameworks
• Strong understanding of carbon modelling, remote sensing, drones, LiDAR or GIS
• Experience translating certification methodology into technical/product requirements
• Able to work autonomously in a freelance / consulting capacity
• Strong communication skills, especially across multidisciplinary teams
• Based in Europe or GCC – willing to travel to Abu Dhabi as needed (1–2x/month)

Nice to Have:

• Prior experience with early-stage tech/product validation in a carbon offsetting context
• A background in both environmental science and systems implementation
